Mijinemungshing Lake Canoe Route

Easy

About

Mijinemungshing Lake, often shortened to Mijin, is the largest inland lake in Lake Superior Provincial Park. Paddlers reach it from Highway 17 by the Mijinemungshing Road at kilometre 1058.0 and launch at the lake's west end. With about 40 km of shoreline and dozens of islands, the lake works as a day trip into the park's interior or as a base for a few nights at island and beach campsites. Portages lead off the lake to Almonte and Maquon lakes. The lake is big enough for wind and waves to build quickly, so keep crossings short when it blows. Water can run low on the old link to Mirimoki Lake, and Ontario Parks now sends Old Woman Lake trips through Gamitagama Lake instead. Campsites take up to nine people, and overnight trips need a backcountry permit.
