Belanger Lake Canoe Route

Easy

About

The Belanger Lake route is a 13 km out-and-back trip in Lake Superior Provincial Park. Access is from Gargantua Road, which leaves Highway 17 at kilometre 1070.3, with the start 2.3 km in from the highway. The route links Slievert, Dead Moose and Connell lakes to Belanger Lake and returns the same way, with four portages of 300 m to 500 m. It works as a day trip or an unhurried overnight, and three backcountry campsites are available. Ontario Parks pitches it at families and anglers: the scenery is pleasant, brook trout fishing is good, and Belanger Lake also holds lake trout. Paddlers looking for a hard test will find it modest. Overnight stays need a backcountry camping permit, best reserved ahead for summer weekends.
