About

The Grand lac Victoria circuit is a 73 km loop in the western part of Réserve faunique La Vérendrye. Sépaq rates it expert, plans it as a seven-day trip and recommends paddling it counter-clockwise. It starts at Baie Barker on Grand lac Victoria, where the launch can no longer be reached by car and a 350 m portage leads to the water. The loop crosses the projected Wanaki biodiversity reserve and several small lakes that only canoes can reach. Portages are few but long: Sépaq lists seven main carries totalling 5 km and one of 135 m. Grand lac Victoria is hard to paddle in strong wind, and Accès Plein Air also marks beaver dams, a low-water spot and an unnavigable obstacle along the way. Sépaq lists one class I rapid and spaces 14 campsites about 5 km apart. The circuit must be booked with Sépaq before arrival.
