This section of the Orignal River from Barrage Bourque to Petit lac des Baies offers a gentler introduction to the system with R1 and S1 difficulty levels and fewer rapids. The route features excellent camping opportunities with ten designated campsites and requires only one portage, making it more accessible than the full river descent. Paddlers enjoy pristine wilderness settings with clear water and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities. The controlled flow from the dam provides reliable water levels throughout the paddling season. Access is via the dam structure with good launching facilities available.
