The North Lady Evelyn Loop is a premier wilderness canoe route within the Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Park system, featuring pristine alpine lakes including the crystal-clear Sunnywater Lake and the stunning Florence Lake surrounded by towering pines and rugged hills. This challenging 7-10 day, 100+ km loop demands strong portaging ability as it connects multiple lakes through over a dozen arduous carries, rewarding paddlers with remote solitude, excellent camping, and access to Ontario's highest point (Ishpatina Ridge). Summer paddling through early fall is ideal, with excellent fishing for brook and lake trout.
About 100 percent of this route lies inside Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park.
Crown land free camping does not apply here. Provincial parks and conservation reserves set their own rules: designated sites, permits and reservations. Check with the responsible authority before you go.
The difficulty of North Lady Evelyn Loop varies by section. Whitewater ratings are not exact: grades change with water level and season. Verify current conditions locally before you paddle.
The best time is June-September.
North Lady Evelyn Loop is located in the Northeastern Ontario region of Canada.
