The Lake Travers access point is at the mouth of the Petawawa River at the south-west tip of Lake Travers, on Algonquin's east side. From the Sand Lake Gate, follow the main road 54.4 km, past the Algonquin Radio Observatory. This is the starting point for the Petawawa River whitewater run to the McManus Lake access point, about 49 km with class I to III rapids including Crooked Chute, Rollway Rapids and The Natch. Travel below McManus Lake is prohibited because of a military artillery range. Lake Travers can also be reached by paddling down the Petawawa from Cedar Lake.
The difficulty of Lake Travers access point varies by section. Whitewater ratings are not exact: grades change with water level and season. Verify current conditions locally before you paddle.
