Crescent Lake Canoe Route

Easy

About

The Crescent Lake route is a short loop at the south end of Lake Superior Provincial Park, laid out to introduce paddlers to lake travel and portaging. The usual put-in is Kenny Lake beside Highway 17 at kilometre 1113.8, near the former Crescent Lake campground. The 3 km circuit runs from Kenny Lake through MacGregor, Crescent and Mudhole lakes and back to Kenny, with four portages of 60 m to 350 m. Most groups finish in about four hours. The small spring-fed lakes see little traffic and hold brook trout and lake trout. It is a day-use route. The 2 km Crescent Lake hiking trail passes the same lakes under yellow birch at least 80 years old and century-old pines, which makes a good way to scout it on foot.
