About

The Nicobyzard Circuit (no. 33) is a 76 km loop in the central part of Réserve faunique La Vérendrye, rated advanced by Sépaq and planned for seven days and six nights. Launch at the Nichcotéa campground or the Lac Byrd campground and travel counterclockwise. The route links a long chain of lakes; a 2025 trip report names Nichcotéa, Paget, du Sceptre, Byrd, Racine and Nizard among them. Sépaq counts ten type A portages totalling 3.4 km and four type B portages totalling 190 m, and lists an impassable section, a stretch of strong current, two shallow stretches, a shallow weir, a dam and a beaver dam. The same report describes several more beaver dams and muddy portage landings in August. Thirteen designated campsites sit about 5 km apart, and the circuit is reserved through Sépaq.
