Antostagan Circuit (no. 11), La Vérendrye

Intermediate Whitewater: Class I-II

About

The Antostagan Circuit, number 11 in Sépaq's canoe-camping network in Réserve faunique La Vérendrye, is a 36 km loop rated intermediate and planned over three days and two nights. Paddlers launch at the Le Domaine registration centre on Route 117 (km 329) or at the Antostagan campground, and Sépaq suggests travelling counterclockwise. The loop has five portages: three type A totalling 765 m and two type B totalling 315 m that let you walk around Class I and II water. Sépaq's survey lists one Class I rapid, one Class I-II, one Class II and a small weir. Lac Jean-Péré gets rough in strong wind, and on those days Sépaq recommends starting from Lac Antostagan instead. Nineteen designated campsites sit about 1 km apart, many on sandy shores, and the circuit must be reserved before you reach the registration centre.
