The Petite boucle Chochocouane is a 69 km loop in the northern part of Réserve faunique La Vérendrye, rated advanced by Sépaq. It starts and ends at the Lac Elbow overflow campground, reached by forest road 41 about 12 km from Highway 117, or 113 km from Le Domaine. Sépaq recommends a clockwise trip of five days. The route follows a small river and a chain of small lakes, including Rivard, Gladu, Laspron and Épau, then the Rivière Denain to the Chochocouane, and finishes by going up the Rivière Canimiti. About 31 km is against the current, which is noticeable for 10 km and hard work in high water. Sépaq counts 21 portages totalling about 3.5 km, and paddlers wade up two swifts, a class I rapid and a beaver dam. Downstream, its list includes rapids up to class V, four ledges and two falls. The circuit must be booked with Sépaq before arrival.
