The Grande boucle Chochocouane is a 138 km loop in the northern part of Réserve faunique La Vérendrye that Sépaq rates advanced to expert and plans as a ten-day trip. It starts at the Lac Elbow overflow campground off forest road 41 and runs clockwise, reaching the Rivière Chochocouane without a shuttle or floatplane. The first days link small and large lakes, creeks, a few rapids and a small river; from Lac Panech to Lac Gladu the route climbs 11 km against a current that can be hard in high water. Between the Camitakit confluence and the Canimiti, Sépaq lists 22 rapids from class I to IV, one ledge and one falls. The last 19 km go up the Rivière Canimiti to Lac Elbow; parties who prefer to avoid it can continue to the Outaouais campground and arrange a 32 km shuttle. Sépaq advises against the loop in high water, and the circuit must be booked in advance.
