Intermediate

About

The Bousquet Meander route is a 47.8 km one-way trip northeast of Rouyn-Noranda in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, rated moderate overall by Accès Plein Air. It starts on Lac Joannès at the Centre forestier du lac Joannès, where parking is private but free, the gate opens 9:30 to 17:30 in summer and you register before setting out. The narrow, twisting Ruisseau Joannès comes first and is the hardest part, rated very demanding, with culverts, many beaver dams, logjams and a small dam to portage. Lac Bousquet follows, with clear water and rock bluffs, then the Bousquet River, about 10 m wide, winds through mature forest, marsh and a mining area, with one short fast-water section that the guide expects you to paddle through. The route ends by crossing Lac Chassignol and Lac Preissac, both rough in strong wind, to a free public ramp in Preissac. Cottages and motorboats are common on the lakes.
