Two Narrows Canoe Route

About

The Two Narrows Canoe Route runs through the interior of Halfway Lake Provincial Park, on Highway 144 in the Sudbury District. It starts on Halfway Lake inside the park, where a paddle of about 45 minutes brings you to a short portage into Bailey Lake. From there a chain of small lakes and portages through jack pine, white birch and poplar leads to Two Narrows Lake in the heart of the park. Ontario's trail inventory maps the route at about 20 km. Bald eagles nest along the way, Bailey Lake has a great blue heron rookery, and the southeast corner of the park still shows the burn from a 2007 forest fire. Bailey Lake has backcountry campsites that can be reserved, and an interior camping permit from the park gatehouse is required. The park rents canoes and kayaks.
