The canoe loop at Murphys Point Provincial Park, on Big Rideau Lake south of Perth, is a 6 km day trip. It starts at the main beach on Hogg Bay, where the park rents canoes. Paddlers follow the narrow channel from Hogg Bay into Big Rideau Lake, keep left around the point into Noble Bay and paddle nearly to its end, then cross two short portages, the first into Loon Lake and the second back to Hogg Bay. Ontario Parks warns that Big Rideau Lake can be treacherous in high wind, so pick your direction of travel with the forecast in mind. Hogg Bay and Loon Lake are closed to motorboats. Stops along the way include the Park Store patio and McParlan House. The park is open from early May to Thanksgiving, and a camping or day-use vehicle permit is required.
