The Clyde River is the largest tributary of the Mississippi River, offering 40 km of scenic paddling from Clyde Lake to Lanark. Water conditions determine the character dramatically: high spring flows create exciting Class 2 whitewater and rapids, while low summer/fall water exposes rocky shoals that require wading. The river meanders through beautiful countryside with diverse wildlife including beavers, otters, deer, and herons. It is not maintained as a canoe route with minimal formal campsites; paddlers should be experienced with whitewater or lining techniques.
Clyde River Canoe Route is estimated at Intermediate. Whitewater ratings are not exact: grades change with water level and season. Verify current conditions locally before you paddle.
The best time is April-May, September-October.
Clyde River Canoe Route is located in the Ontario region of Canada.
