CanoeMap relaunched in English-first form in August 2026, so traffic is small and growing. We will send you the current Cloudflare Web Analytics figures (page views, referrer, device class, country) with the first reply, before you commit to anything. The argument today is intent and search surface, not volume.
Where the data comes from
This is the part a hobby site cannot copy. Every route line and every point on the map is traceable to a survey, not to someone reading a scanned map:
698 routes carry real river geometry, each one matched to a named watercourse in the National Hydro Network rather than to whatever river happened to be nearby. Routes we cannot identify that way draw no line at all.
6,609 rapids, portages, campsites, waterfalls and access points from CanVec (Natural Resources Canada), the Canadian Geographical Names Database and OpenStreetMap.
62,303 Ontario crown land parcels from Land Information Ontario. 125 route pages tell you whether the river runs through crown land.
An enforced provenance rule. Coordinates read off PDF maps are banned outright and a build gate fails if any reach the site. Wrong rapid positions are a safety problem, not a data-quality one.
Open government data under the Open Government Licence (Canada and Ontario), CC-BY 4.0 and ODbL, assembled and cross-checked by us. Route research also draws on the paddling community, including cartespleinair.org.
