About

The Jock River hosts the renowned spring Jock River Race through the Richmond Fen, a 12.5 km paddling challenge established in 1971. The river features shallow rapids, fast chutes, and interesting wetland scenery as it winds through open farmland before entering the Richmond Fen, an eerie and diverse provincially significant wetland. Water conditions are best during spring freshet when flows are highest. Multiple access points along the river provide flexibility for paddlers of varying abilities.

Crown land along this route

Part of this route, roughly 12 percent, runs through crown land. Crown land is public land. In Ontario a resident of Canada may camp on most of it for free, up to 21 days on any one site in a calendar year. Being crown land is not the same as being open to camping: a provincial park or conservation reserve follows different rules.
