The historic Mattawa River provides an exceptional journey through 76km of Canadian wilderness following the legendary voyageur highway from Trout Lake to the Ottawa River confluence. This designated Canadian Heritage River features stunning rock-walled canyons up to 150 metres high, spectacular waterfalls like the six-metre Paresseux Falls, and fascinating historical sites including Hell's Gate ochre mine and voyageur portages. With 13 short, well-marked portages and mix of flatwater and Class I rapids, the route accommodates all skill levels from beginners to experienced paddlers seeking multi-day adventures through pristine wilderness.
