North Tea Lake stands as one of Algonquin's largest and most dramatic water bodies in the northwest region, accessed via the scenic Amable du Fond River. This route delivers a stout paddling challenge across open water with powerful winds and substantial whitecaps, making it ideal for intermediate paddlers seeking distance paddling over technical portaging. The loop to Manitou Lake combines pristine backcountry scenery, excellent campsites with sandy and rocky shorelines, and rewarding solitude. Wind conditions can be severe, so flexible scheduling and paddle skills are essential. Best paddled June-September when water is calmer and bugs less intense.
About 100 percent of this route lies inside Algonquin Provincial Park.
