Widgeon Creek is a popular day paddle at the south end of Pitt Lake in Pitt Meadows, starting from Grant Narrows Regional Park. Canoes and kayaks use the free beach launch there, and X̱ẃam, a Katzie First Nation partnership, rents boats on site. A short crossing of the narrows leads to the creek mouth; Widgeon Slough and the creek then carry on about 4.5 to 5 km to the Widgeon Creek campground, an hour to an hour and a half each way. Most of the paddle lies in Widgeon Marsh Regional Park, while the campground is in Pinecone Burke Provincial Park: free, first come, first served, with tent pads, a food cache and a permanent fire ban. A trail of about 3 km continues to Widgeon Falls, where rocks are slippery. Pitt Lake is tidal: high water comes 1 to 2 hours after high tide at Point Atkinson and currents reach about 2 knots.
The difficulty of Widgeon Creek varies by section. Whitewater ratings are not exact: grades change with water level and season. Verify current conditions locally before you paddle.
Widgeon Creek is located in the Lower Mainland region of Canada.
