Northwestern Ontario

Quetico Trail (Path of the Paddle)

About

The Quetico Trail is the section of the Path of the Paddle, the Trans Canada Trail's water route across Northwestern Ontario, that crosses Quetico Provincial Park from south to north. The Path of the Paddle Association puts it at about 140 km; other sources give 125 to 137 km. It begins at Cache Bay, the park's southern entry on Saganaga Lake, where it meets the Omimi Trail. It then runs through the centre of the park by way of the Falls Chain and Kawnipi Lake to Pickerel Lake, with a loop to French Lake and the Dawson Trail campground. From Pickerel it swings west to Batchewaung Bay and north to Nym Lake at the park boundary, where the Maukinak Trail carries on toward Atikokan. Quetico permits are reserved for a set entry point, and Cache Bay permits must be picked up at that station. Cans and glass bottles are banned in the park.
