This loop in northern Quetico Provincial Park starts at the Nym Lake entry point near Atikokan. From Nym Lake, cross Batchewaung Lake to Pickerel Lake, head east through Pickerel Narrows, then turn south and southwest through Dore and Twin lakes to the big water of Sturgeon Lake. Near Sturgeon's west end, Jean Creek leads north through Burntside and Jean lakes to Quetico Lake. The route then runs east through Oriana, Jesse and Maria lakes, a portage drops you back on Pickerel Lake, and the last day retraces the first. Sunset Country lists the loop at 112 km over six days, with 18 portages linking 14 lakes, and rates it challenging. Quetico backcountry permits are reserved for a set entry point up to five months ahead, and cans and glass bottles are banned in the park.
