Winisk River Canoe Route

~ Advanced
★★★★⯨ 4.5

About

The Winisk River is an extraordinary remote expedition, featuring 295 miles of demanding paddling with Class II-IV rapids that require advanced whitewater skills and portage experience. Paddlers encounter pristine boreal forest, tundra-like terrain, and exceptional wildlife including moose, bears, and eagles en route to Hudson Bay. Water levels are critical. High water in early summer creates powerful rapids while lower levels expose boulder gardens. Best paddled June-July; expect extreme isolation and bring bear deterrents for the lower reaches near Hudson Bay.
