Ugjoktok River: Schefferville to Hopedale (1982)

About

Stewart Coffin's party of four paddled from Schefferville to Hopedale in 20 days in August 1982. From Iron Arm on Attikamagen Lake they crossed Mole, Fox and Snowshoe lakes, ran down the Rivière de Pas, tracked up the George River to Whitegull Lake, and passed Lac Rochereau and Lac Chapiteau into the Ugjoktok headwaters. Below Border Beacon they portaged a 30 m falls and the impassable 3 km Upper Gorge over rough ground, then more falls, gorges and rapids above the Harp River mouth. Drops at tidewater were portaged before Ugjoktok Bay and a 37 km coastal paddle to Hopedale.
