The Thelon River is Canada's remotest and most pristine wilderness canoe route, stretching 900 kilometres across the Arctic barrens through the Thelon Wildlife Sanctuary. Paddlers experience gentle to moderate rapids (minimal portaging) with extraordinary wildlife viewing opportunities including caribou, muskox, wolves, and arctic birds, alongside stunning esker landscapes with white sand beaches and kettle lakes. Best season is late June to mid-August during the short Arctic summer. Access requires chartered floatplane from Yellowknife; multiple expedition outfitters operate here.
