The Pelly River between Ross River and Faro is an accessible beginner-to-intermediate paddle that showcases the Yukon's remote wilderness character. A very worthwhile daytrip is canoeing down the Pelly River from Ross River to Faro, taking about ten hours but allowing paddlers to take it easy and camp on Pelly shores or islands. The river flows through traditional territory of the Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation with excellent wildlife viewing opportunities including lynx, bears, and eagles. The Pelly is born in the Selwyn Mountains and flows east towards the Yukon River. Access is convenient via the Campbell Highway at both endpoints, making it ideal for a quick wilderness escape. Best paddled June through August during high water.
