The Réservoir Gouin western sector offers some of Quebec's most expansive wilderness paddling across 1,789 km² of pristine lake and peninsula waters. This massive reservoir features calm waters ideal for beginners, with over 275 km of interconnected waterways surrounded by boreal forest. The area provides excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing including moose, beavers, and loons, with numerous bays and islands creating sheltered paddling conditions. Access is via forest roads from Parent or La Tuque, making it relatively accessible compared to fly-in locations. The best season runs from late May through September when weather conditions are most favorable.
