The Ouareau-Aval du Lac section offers intermediate whitewater paddling through the Lanaudière wilderness with Class III-IV rapids and technical challenges. This downstream section from Lake Ouareau features continuous rapids, rocky obstacles, and requires solid boat handling skills with minimal recovery pools. The route flows through the scenic Ouareau Forest Regional Park with mixed hardwood forests and granite outcrops typical of the Canadian Shield. Best paddled during spring snowmelt and after summer rains when water levels are adequate, as the river can become quite shallow in dry conditions. Access is via the Ouareau Forest Regional Park with limited shuttle services available.
Ouareau - Downstream of the Lake is estimated at Advanced. Whitewater ratings are not exact: grades change with water level and season. Verify current conditions locally before you paddle.
