The Olomane River (also known as La Romaine) is one of Quebec's most remote wilderness rivers flowing through the rugged Côte-Nord region. This challenging route requires expert-level paddling skills and complete self-sufficiency due to its isolation. The river features numerous rapids and waterfalls, including the famous 'Les Murailles' rapids with towering rock walls up to 150m high. Access is extremely difficult, typically requiring floatplane transport or complex overland routes. Best paddled during summer months when weather conditions are most stable, though rain and harsh conditions are common even then.
Olomane River is estimated at Advanced. Whitewater ratings are not exact: grades change with water level and season. Verify current conditions locally before you paddle.
The best time is July-August.
