About

This remote loop in Algonquin's northern interior combines multiple lakes and rivers for a moderately challenging 4-7 day adventure. Starting from Brent (Cedar Lake), you paddle the scenic Petawawa River, exploring Catfish and Burntroot Lakes, known for historical logging artifacts and island campsites, before returning via the scenic Nipissing River. Expect challenging wind conditions on larger lakes and the rewarding 2.3 km Stack Rapids portage. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, and spring offers excellent trout fishing. The 45-minute drive into Brent keeps this area less crowded than Highway 60 routes.
