The Nass River winds through the spectacular lava beds and ancient forests of northwestern BC, creating one of Canada's most unique paddling experiences. This powerful river offers mostly Class I-II water with some technical sections requiring scouting, flowing past dramatic volcanic landscapes and traditional First Nations territories. The river provides excellent steelhead and salmon fishing opportunities alongside rich cultural heritage sites. Prime season runs from June through September with stable water levels. Access is via logging roads from Terrace or New Aiyansh, requiring high-clearance vehicles.
Nass River is estimated at Intermediate. Whitewater ratings are not exact: grades change with water level and season. Verify current conditions locally before you paddle.
