The Haute Betsiamites represents one of Quebec's most spectacular whitewater experiences when water releases occur from Hydro-Quebec dams. This world-class Class V section features over 20 challenging rapids through a dramatic granite gorge, normally dry except during controlled releases. Expert-level whitewater paddling skills are essential, with technical rapids and continuous challenges. Unfortunately, water releases are unpredictable and infrequent, making this extraordinary river accessible only during rare dam evacuation events. When runnable, it rivals the best whitewater destinations globally.
