About

The Fond du Lac River is widely considered one of Canada's finest wilderness canoe routes, a pristine 270-kilometre river flowing through spectacular limestone canyons and dramatic sandstone gorges from Wollaston Lake to Lake Athabasca. Famous for its Class I–II runnable rapids, numerous beautiful waterfalls (especially Manitou Falls), and exceptional camping on rolling eskers and limestone benches, it offers intermediate-to-advanced paddlers an unforgettable Shield experience. The clear, jade-green water and abundant wildlife (moose, bald eagles, caribou) add to the appeal, while driving access to Points North and easy outfitter availability make this increasingly popular. July–August is peak season; the Waterfound River provides an alternate fly-free access option.
