The Elbow River provides an accessible mountain paddling experience just west of Calgary, flowing through the scenic Elbow River Valley. This river offers Class I-II whitewater suitable for beginners to intermediate paddlers, with clear mountain water and beautiful Rocky Mountain scenery throughout the journey. The route passes through Kananaskis Country and features dense coniferous forests, limestone cliffs, and excellent opportunities for spotting wildlife including deer, elk, and various bird species. Spring and early summer provide optimal flow conditions, though the river can be paddled well into fall. Multiple access points exist along Highway 66 and the Elbow Falls area.
