The Dubawnt River flows across the Barren Lands through pristine arctic wilderness, offering experienced canoeists moderate to challenging paddling with scenic waterfalls and numerous lake expansions. The route passes through important wildlife habitat for caribou, muskox, and arctic birds with extensive evidence of traditional Inuit occupation along its banks. The river provides a more forgiving alternative to the Back River while maintaining authentic remote Arctic paddling experience. Best paddled late June through mid-August during the short Arctic summer. Access requires floatplane coordination from northern staging points.
