The Du Sable – Caniapiscau – Koksoak route is one of northern Quebec's most challenging and historically significant wilderness expeditions. The Du Sable is generally considered too difficult for average paddlers, but offers access to the incredible Eaton Canyon and flows into the massive Caniapiscau River system. This route passes through steep and tumultuous rapids, wounded by dam construction but still wild and untamed, culminating in the wide Koksoak River - described as the most beautiful but physically most difficult trip by experienced paddlers. Peak flows occur during spring freshet from May-June, with more manageable conditions in July-August. Access requires flying to remote starting points near Schefferville, suitable only for expert whitewater paddlers.
