About

The Dog River is an extreme whitewater paddling destination featuring 650 feet of elevation drop over 37 kilometers with 60+ rapids and seven waterfalls, including the famous Denison Falls. This route is strictly for advanced paddlers and expert kayakers with solid wilderness skills; the unmarked portages are extremely challenging with route-finding difficulties and dense forest. Scenic Lake Superior mouth location with excellent campsites contrasts with the punishing upper river sections. Best paddled in spring (late April-May) at high water when the whitewater is manageable; only 5-7 day expeditions with shuttle services from Wawa.
