The Coulonge River is a 240+ km scenic whitewater route in western Quebec, considered the most remote of the 'Three Sisters' with well-worn portage trails and forgiving Class I-II/III rapids perfect for beginners. Paddlers navigate dramatic fault-line-carved canyons, stunning sand beaches, and pristine Canadian Shield forest while spotting Great Blue Herons, owls, and moose. The upper section offers flatwater through La Vérendrye lakes; the lower whitewater section features the spectacular 48m Grandes Chutes. Trips range 5-10 days May-October; minimal portaging and excellent outfitter support.
