Sec Lake (Mallard/Sec Lakes) is a quiet eastern access point accessed via Sand Lake Gate providing entry to pristine backcountry lakes with minimal crowding. This beginner-friendly route offers peaceful paddling through clean lakes with excellent camping and good fishing for northern pike, smallmouth bass and lake trout. The area sees far fewer visitors than Highway 60 routes, making it ideal for paddlers seeking solitude and family-friendly paddling. Summer is optimal for conditions and wildlife viewing. Access requires a 2km detour from Sand Lake Gate but rewards with true backcountry quietness.
Access 23 (Sec Lake) is estimated at Intermediate. Whitewater ratings are not exact: grades change with water level and season. Verify current conditions locally before you paddle.
