The Rupert River, once one of Quebec's most celebrated wilderness canoe routes, flows 600 kilometers from Lac Mistassini to James Bay through spectacular northern wilderness. While the original river experience has been significantly altered by hydroelectric diversions since 2009, remaining sections still offer paddlers glimpses of massive whitewater, including the famous 'Oatmeal Rapids' and towering boreal forest scenery. Historical significance as a traditional Cree travel route and fur trade highway adds cultural depth to any remaining paddling opportunities.
The difficulty of Rupert River varies by section.
The best time is July-August.
Rupert River is located in the Nord-du-Québec region of Canada.
