The Puvirnituq River originates at Lake Raglan and winds 300+ kilometers through Arctic tundra to Hudson Bay at the Inuit village of Puvirnituq. This extremely remote and challenging route follows ancient fault lines through a landscape of shallow rock gardens, technical rapids including the spectacular Sanguamaaluk Canyon, and countless portages. The treeless country offers excellent camping but demands expert paddling skills and arctic expedition experience. Access is typically via Pingualuit National Park through the Vachon River system, requiring complex route-finding through unmarked terrain. Only for the most experienced wilderness paddlers.
The difficulty of Puvirnituq River varies by section.
The best time is July-August.
Puvirnituq River is located in the Nord-du-Québec region of Canada.
