The Peace River flows eastward from the BC Rockies across the northern boreal forest, offering one of Canada's great wilderness canoe routes with over 1,000 kilometers of paddling potential. This mighty river features mostly easy Class I current with occasional sweepers and log jams, passing through diverse ecosystems from mountain foothills to prairie parkland. Wildlife is exceptional including moose, black bears, countless waterfowl, and some of North America's best bird watching. Best paddled from May through September with multiple access points. The W.A.C. Bennett Dam creates Williston Lake, while downstream sections offer classic big-river touring toward Alberta.
The difficulty of Peace River River varies by section.
The best time is May-September.
